As a kid its a  dream of being a 1,000 point scorer in high school but for Sarah Sweet, senior, that dream came a reality hitting 1,000 points on February 20th 2019.

Sweet hit a 3-pointer on the wing to score the 1,000 against Mount Saint Charles being swarmed by her teammates after not knowing she just reached this accomplishment.

“Right away Leah H art came up to me and was cheering and then everyone came over to support me and my family came out and it was very special,” Sweet, said

This night was also special as it was senior night for Sweet as well as fellow seniors Taylor Flint, Taylor Chofay and Molly Toole.

Sweet had kept track of her points she said, but still didn’t think she was going hit that night or that season.

“Working with the Athletic Director Matt Mhar, parents and team, her mom told the crowd before it happened the bench knowing and the Athletic Director told the refs to stop the game.  Everyone knew it was happening expect for Sarah.” Abby Hummel, coach, said

Hummel said Sweet along with the other upperclassmen have been great leaders and role models for the underclass.

Hummel said she has been fortunate to coach Sweet for five years, one at the middle school, and is happy to see the growth Sweet has had as a person and player

“Coached Sarah for 5 years 1 at pier school. Seeing her progress from middle to high school is exciting because the level of play is very different and I have seen her grow as a person as well.” Hummel, said

Sweet had her Parents, Brother and grandparents there to celebrate with her as she hit this accomplishment.

The feeling was overwhelming when Sweet hit the shot Hummel said as we kept it a secret from her for a majority of the year

“Everyone was a little emotional when she hit the shot because she didn’t know and being a part of the group holding it back from her is overwhelming. As a staff definitely a good decision not to tell her” Hummel, said

The shot put Sweet over 1,000 on the year but the season is not over yet, the lady mariners take on Ponagansett in round one of the playoffs.
